Issue with the new PINK Face Caddy is fixed!

I've had several calls/emails about the new Pink Face Caddy being too large. And in fact, after investigation, it does seem the pattern was altered in the production. So I hope by now every person that bought a pink one has read my email to them and know that I am replacing each Pink Face Caddy with a new one that fixes the problem.

This has been a frustrating event for users and I am so sorry for this. Please hang in there a couple of more days. The fisrt batch of new ones were sent in the mail this morning (Saturday).

I am also leaving for Boston in an hour for the big American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery annual meeting. I'll have a booth in the exhibitor's hall...so if you're there, come say hi!

The cost of shipping UPS Ground and USPS Priority Mail

Happy New Year (a little late)...

We've been making some improvements over the last few weeks. First off, we upgraded our checkout system on the website, www.FaceCaddy.com. Now, the checkout is seamless, regardless if you use PayPal, Visa, MasterCard, AmEx or Discover. All checkouts are now done right on our secure site.

Next, we've repackaged the Face Caddy. The plastic bag we are now using is thicker. This change gives the Face Caddy a more sturdy container for shipping. Our previous packaging worked fine, but when we saw this slight improvement, we wanted to use it.

I also want to address the topic of shipping. One of our customers sent me an email saying she thought the cost of shipping was too high and that she felt we were making a profit on the shipping fee. This actually caught me off guard, as the $10.99that we charge on the site for delivery via UPS Ground does not cover the actual cost we are charged by UPS. On average, the shipping runs $12- $13 to ship anywhere in the US. But I felt that if we could eat a little of that, it would make the shipping fee more affordable to most people.

If you purchase your Face Caddy though the Amazon Marketplace, it will be shipped via United States Postal Service, and Amazon AUTOMATICALLY charges a shipping fee of $4.99. Again, this does not cover the ACTUAL cost of shipping via the USPS. So while ordering your Face Caddy online at Amazon will indeed save you a couple of dollars in shipping, the delivery time is a little longer. But if that is not an issue, I encourage you to visit the Amazon Marketplace and order there:

I want to say again, we are not making any profit on our shipping fees. It never occured to me to charge extra for shipping. We don't even add in the cost of the shipping materials (padded envelopes, UPS pick up fee...). I have tried to make the Face Caddy the most affordable and helpful product out there for applying ice or heat to the face. And, I think I've done that. Honestly.

Now with all this said, I am EXTREMELY grateful to the customer that brought this topic up. Feedback like this is the best way for me to know what's on your mind. Hello,
We have just finalized our placement with Amazon Marketplace and Google Ads. These two online resources ensure that folks who don't know about the Face Caddy can "stumble" on them by searching with terms like TMJ, migraine, headaches, oral surgery, cosmetic injections and many many more.

I've actually just taken off my Face Caddy this morning, using it both for ice and then heat...getting the blood circulating in my face. On top of it being a great help with pain, it's also, I've found out, just a great morning ritual applying ice and then heat, or, heat and then ice, that gets my blood pumping and flushing my face with energy. I know I know. That sounds "new age-y" but it's true. It feels great.

Samples have been ordered! We are doing this to make sure we are getting the same quality in our Face Caddy as before. Once I get the samples and approve them, we will be back in full swing operation.

Again...for those of you who have contacted me during this period, I apologize for this slight bump. The economy put a whammy on fabric manufacturers and there was just nothing I could do until that had been resolved. And now it is!

We are SOOOO close to being back in production! This week we made big progress with our manufacturer and it looks like production could start back as soon as 2 weeks.

I have to say....since we've been in this phase of not having Face Caddies, I've recieved many, many emails from folks who were looking for help with their TMJ and migraine pain. I also got quite a few messages from people who were getting ready for oral surgery and wanted to have a Face Caddy cued up and ready for when they come home from the surgery. Icing the face after oral surgery is so important. I have felt so bad for these folks. I've been there and I know how comforting it is to have a product like the Face Caddy ready when you need it.

I sincerely appreciate you all keeping in contact with your emails and inquiries as to when we'll have more Caddies for sale. We are getting there and will be back in stock soon.

2010: A New Beginning

It's a new year, a new decade, and, well, a new beginning. But when you work that concept of "new beginnings" down to the bone, that's where you'll find it's real power.

For example, most people can grasp the idea that each new day, as the sun rises, it's a new beginning of a new day. All the signs are there that help you realize something new has begun....dark turns to light; sleep turns to wake; fasting turns to breakfast...and on and on.

But when you break down that new day into, say, morning, afternoon and evening, you've created three new time frames for a new beginning.

OK. So taking another step, you can further slice and dice to say that each time the clock hits a new hour (say, 10am, 12noon, 2pm, 5pm, 9pm, etc) it's a new beginning.

From there, it's obvious where I'm going. Hour...minute...second. The whole day is full of opportunities for a new beginning.

With 2010 here (seems like we were just preparing for the computer meltdown
of Y2K!), it's a great moment to start fresh and let go of people, behavior, and attitudes that cause us stress, unhappiness and suck our energy like a black hole. But it also means recognizing the positive in our lives, and nurturing those people, behaviors and attitudes that add the good to your days.

I know that's easier said than done...just saying it doesn't make it happen. But saying it, and saying it often, does start the process.

Here's wishing you, wherever you are reading this from, a new beginning that can begin at any time.

Twas the night before (the night before) Christmas...

It's Christmas Eve eve (the 23rd) and I just wanted to post a short note of thanks to every single customer, doctor, vendor, and reindeer I've had the pleasure of meeting this past year.

It's been a year with some challenges I could have done without...mainly a broken shoulder and head trauma. But, because of the Face Caddy, I'm constantly meeting and talking with people who live for years with ongoing pain. So, I'm grateful for the recovery I've been able to make, because I know, first hand, there are millions of people who's recovery from their pain is slow to come.

I've been on the road since mid-Nov. visiting doctors and even set up a Face Caddy booth at a shopping mall. That's not exactly how I planned to spend my Thanksgiving, but it was such a great event. It's been a long time since I've been able to update the blog. I had a nasty fall in January (Happy New Year!) and broke my shoulder and had a few other issues to deal with as a result.

But time, and a good doctor, can heal so much. For a while, I couldn't even lift my arm to type on the computer. Those days are over now, and I plan on updating more often.

On a positive note, the Face Caddy has found many new users. Luckily, business did not slow down over the past months, even if I did.

Post Election Headaches! Migraines and TMJ hit the high numbers.

Forget about the numbers that translated into electorial votes and popular votes. I know for a fact that the stress, anxiety and even fear about the election triggered an unusually high number of migraines and caused people to experience TMJ pain due to tension. Over the past three weeks, orders and inquiries have doubled. What could be causing this I asked myself. A blogger raving about The Face Caddy? A mention on The View or Good Morning America? Maybe. But I honestly think the lead up to this election had people in stress mode.

So hopefully The Face Caddy helped some people during this historic campaign and election. And now, we can all move forward as a country, and not of Democrats or Republicans, but as Americans.

Hello Readers,
I have not dropped off the face of the earth as it may seem. The summer passed so quickly...and I kept saying to myself that I must get on the blog and update. Well, you say that so many times and all the sudden it's almost October. Anyway....

The latest news is that over the summer our online sales took off. From what I can tell when I look at the metrics, it seems the word about our product hit the TMJ and migraine blogs and online chat rooms. In a good way!

The beauty of the internet, as in love, is that it sometimes only takes one person to make a difference. It seems that one popular TMJ online support group leader found the Face Caddy while Googling "TMJ relief" and came upon www.facecaddy.com. That person ordered a Caddy and found it to be helpful. He then spread the news through blogging and the chat room he monitors, and it took off from there.

We are so happy....first of all because we know our product helps TMJ and migraine pain (along with the many other uses I've talked about on this blog: oral surgery, facial surgery or cosmetic procedures such as Botox, laser peels, lifestyle lift facelifts....or other "mini facelift" procedures).

The ease of use and the fact that the Face Caddy leaves your hands free, not holding ice packs or frozen peas on your face, makes TMJ users really happy. And for migraine sufferers, many have never been told that the jaw area can be the thing that triggers a migraine. Most of them have been applying ice to where the pain seems to be the worst, like the forehead, eyes, back of the neck, instead of the jaw area, where many migraines are triggered.

Sunday, June 29. Radiation/Cancer treatment with Face Caddy

We've had a flurry of activity from cancer patients eager to try the Face Caddy to cool down the body during their course of radiation. I've never been through that treatment, so obviously I can't even begin to know or talk about the effects of radiation.

The one thing I can say though is that I know for a fact that the Face Caddy applies ice (or heat obviously, but for radiation, we're talking ice) to the temple area, which is a major temperature regulating point on the body (much like the back of the neck, the wrists, and ankles). So it makes sense to apply ice to the temple area after having radiation treatment to help the patient feel more comfortable.

From what I've been told, no matter where the cancer is, if you are treated with radiation, one of the after-effects is extreme uncomforatability in the form of body heat. It makes perfect sense when you think about it. Radiation = Heat.

As I have said in an earlier blog, whatever help the Face Caddy can bring, we are extremely happy and even humbled that the product we developed for one treatment (post facelift) has found so many other helpful uses.

It's Saturday and I'm up on Cape Cod making some calls to Cape chiropractors. It's so beautiful here in Provincetown, and, it's the 10th Annual Provincetown Film Festival, so there's lots of activity.

On Friday I met with a migraine doctor in Boston and he seemed interested in the Face Caddy. Although he said (and I know!) migraines have many triggers, it is true that for many, ice helps. So he took a few Face Caddy samples and will report back.

That's the way this is going for the most part. Doctors don't just outright buy the product. They want a few for free, and will try them out. Being a new product on the market, that's what we have to do. And, I am happy to do it this way, but I do hope that over time, the Face Caddy will develop a following and reputation, and people will call US.

If we were a huge pharma company with millions of dollars available for marketing, we would already be a household name. Alas. We're making our reputation the old way, WE'RE EARNING IT!

Migraine and TMJ Update on Face Caddy

Well it seems as if I fell off the face of the earth for a while, but all is well. I have been involved in moving, traveling, and finding new warehouse space for Face Caddy inventory. Blogging had to take a back seat.

Now however, all seems settled and I hope to get back to the boards and share news about migraine treatment, migraine stories, TMJ treatment and stories, and some of our customer's stories on how the Face Caddy has helped them find pain relief with the thermal therapy that Face Caddy provides.

While I was in Boston recently, I met an ENT (ear, nose and throat) doctor who was dealing with chronic pain patients on a daily basis. He said that for many of his patients with ear pain, whether it was from inner-ear canal issues, facial surgery residual pain, or unexplained, one helpful treatment he prescribes is heat therapy. Applying heat to the ear (not burning heat!) almost always helped his patients relax and disolve or modify the pain for a period of time.

The doctor was kind enough to take a look at the Face Caddy and it's application of heat (or ice) and said he would get a couple of his patients to try it out. Several weeks later I heard back from him and he was sold on our product.

He said his patients were very happy with the heat application, but even more than that, they were thrilled that they could apply heat and not have to hold something up to their faces. They loved the fact that the Face Caddy left their hands free, and enabled them to continue doing whatever they were doing, even if it was just sitting and watching TV.

So, another use was unveiled....ear pain.

Hello on a beautiful NYC Sunday,

I've not had a chance to catch-up in the past few days because I've had a lot of emails due to a very positive, very kind, and very generous review of the Face Caddy on "The Migraine Girl" blog.

"The Migraine Girl" is one of the links listed on the right-hand column of The New York Times Migraine Blog.

Her comments on the Face Caddy as a treatment for her chronic migraine disease were great to read. I KNOW my product works, and feedback like this is so rewarding. There are a lot of products out there, and God knows a lot of medications, but I have not seen any that treat the "trigger points" at the jawline like Face Caddy does. I got off the Red Eye (overnight) flight a couple of hours ago and have been reunited with my camera cable to download some of the pictures from my trip to California. I have no idea why I was interested in these subjects, but I was. They were either iconic (the Hollywood sign) or ironic (the Church of Scientology sign). Or, just beautiful shots of some of the plants.

Other than my photography efforts, the visits with doctors was successful. I made several friends out there who understand what a great product the Face Caddy is. Thanks to all of you for your west coast hospitality.

Have had positive reception for Face Caddy here in California. Oral surgeons and chiropractors understand the need for a product like this. Their patients need some convenient method to apply ice or heat between visits. I was in several offices when the doctor let a patient try on a Face Caddy to see what they thought of the product....and ALL of them said they have been in need of something like this. They were sick and tired of making their own homemade heated wraps (usually a moist towel in a microwave) or ice packs (usually a pack of frozen peas).

I'm glad the doctors got to see the patient's reaction for themselves. There's a difference between me telling the doctor how great the Face Caddy is, and them seeing it for themselves.

I wanted to download some beautiful pictures I've taken while here, but I forgot the cable that hooks my camera up to my computer. I'll do it once I get back to NYC at the end of the week.

I'm in LA now for a week of meetings with chiropractors and oral surgeons. Trying to spread the Face Caddy out west! Being based in New York, and being a small company, we have, up to now, focused on the east coast. But now I'm in Hollywood (kinda...) introducing the Big Orange to our product. I'll take some pictures while I'm here and post them. FYI: When I left NYC it was in the 40's and POURING rain. LA is sunny and 75 today! What's not to love?

Jeff Tweedy, from the band Wilco, has suffered with migraines his whole life. His music has been influenced by the pain, and his life has been influenced by the music, so it's a cycle. I'm adding more health and wellness products to the FaceCaddy website every day. Since I'm hand picking items, it's sometimes slow going.

The Massage and Body Therapy section has several items at this point. Other categories that I'm working on are Environmental Wellness (I have several air purifiers on the page now, but I am not comfortable with the news I heard yesterday about Sharper Image not honoring their OWN gift cards, since they have declared Chapter 11, so I'm taking those down soon and will find some other high quality filters to feature), Organic Bedding, Body & Personal Care, and Books, Movies & Music.

Please remember, the products I'm featuring are all to benefit your personal well being, and not just a mish-mash of things. Already, the Shiatsu pillow has sold quite quickly, and this is the kind of product I'm looking to make available.

A new month, March. I feel Spring is on her way...

I've been working on getting some of my favorite health and wellness products approved for selling on the FaceCaddy website. I've got the link to "Favorite Things" up and live, but as you'll see, right now it just says something like "Coming Soon."

I am excited to be able to offer some great stuff in a few weeks. I am personally sorting through thousands of items to hand-pick a collection that represents good living, healthy outlook, and personal growth.

Hello, on a very cold day here in New York City.

It's about 23 degrees, which for many people with TMJ and migraines, is not a good thing. Cold weather can tighten blood vessels and joints that trigger pain. If you're one of these folks, bundle up before going out (if you're in a cold area, of course. Miami Beach....this does not apply to you!)

Another good blog in The New York Times yesterday, written by Dr. Oliver Sacks, the neurologist and author on migraine matters.

I received an email this week about "trigger points" and why Face Caddy makes such a big deal about them when we talk about migraine and TMJ treatment.

Well, for TMJ treatment, the jawline area where TMJ is centered is the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Chiropractors who treat TMJ patients call that area a trigger point, because that is the source of many, many, many problems. For some reason that joint has become misaligned, inflamed, or just outta-wack! This can be from past oral surgery, an infection, an accident, a blow to the head, grinding of teeth, etc. TMJ patients find that warmth on the area calms the pain.

Heat, as you know, makes things expand, so when the Face Caddy gel packs are put in the microwave and the Face Caddy is put on with these pack in it, the heat relaxes that joint, expands the area. This causes the nerve endings that are pounding because of pressure, to stop or greatly improve. As far as migraine treatment and these trigger points, this same joint that triggers TMJ can also trigger migraines.

.....A misaligned temoromandibular joint can also trigger backaches, neck problems, joint issues, balance, etc. A whole list of issues that you might never think were triggered by a misaligned or inflamed joint....

SO many people are unaware that migraine pain that is centered at the back of the head, or the temples, or forehead, or any other place on the head can, and often does, begin at, and is triggered by, a misaligned temporomandibual joint!

Now as you know, migraines can be triggered by so many things, that's why there is no one cure. But patients who have been referred to the Face Caddy by their chiropractor often find relief. AND, their number ONE comment is, "why didn't anyone tell me to apply ice or heat to my jaw and temporomandibular joint?!" Most of these customers have been applying ice to where the PAIN was, instead of the jaw area.

So, that's a quick response about trigger points and why the Face Caddy is unique in it's treatment for TMJ and migraines.

There was a wonderful "Opinion" piece by Siri Hustvedt in The New York Times this morning called "Lifting, Lights, and Little People" that talks about migraines, auras and "the little people." It's about his experiences with migraine hallucinations. It's funny and hearbreaking at the same time. Thought you all might like to read it.

The Times often runs pieces on migraines. In fact, they have a migraine blog that is described as follows:

"More than 28 million Americans, and many more people throughout the world, suffer from migraine headaches, one of the most debilitating of pain disorders. Symptoms like excruciating pain, visual disturbance and disorientation are often compounded by long-term emotional, physical and financial costs. It's Sunday evening and I'm going through emails I've received since Friday.Valentine's Day seems to have triggered some migraines. Why? Well, I've got two ideas.

First, those boxes of chocolates could have set off a wave of pain; many people have said that indeed chocolate is a migraine trigger. Yet, they eat it. Heck, it's VALENTINE'S DAY! And who could blame anyone for eating it?

Chocolate just tastes so damn good. Plus, if you received a box of candies from a lover, wouldn't not eating them be an emotional dagger? Almost infidelity?

I know that may sound a little far fetched, but food has an emotional meaning to us. And a box of chocolates from a lover or romantic interest is LOADED with psychic emotional baggage.

Second, the emotional strain of a holiday like Valentine's Day. I won't elaborate on that because I'm sure you can sort that out. A holiday that "represents" whether you're loved or not! Talk about loaded.

So I received over 35 emails from people who were in physical (and emotional I'm sure) pain and wanted to order a Face Caddy...and wanted it sent Next Day Air! Well, unfortunately, we don't ship next day, so the best I could do was ship them first thing Monday morning, and they'll have them by Wed. or Thu.

This week I also got a call from a mother who was ordering a Face Caddy for her daughter who was going to have oral surgery this coming week. The phone connection was static and kept dropping. I finally got a good connection with her and asked where the heck she was calling from. She said she was in the middle of Central Park!

I asked this woman what kind of oral surgery her daughter was about to have, and it was for TMJ. I hope the surgery is successful! I know for sure the Face Caddy will help with the recovery.

We've sold hundreds of Face Caddies to folks who live with TMJ pain on a daily basis. The moist heat that the packs can provide help so much. I know this from the feedback cards customers have sent us.

The first blog entry. I'll start by introducing myself. My name is John, and I, along with my business partner Rae, invented the Ice Caddy and the Face Caddy.

We designed the Ice Caddy to be used after a procedure that thousands of people are having done which is called a "mini-face lift." Like the name implies, it's not a full-on "extreme makeover." It usually just lifts the jaw area, neck, and cheek area. Incisions are made around the ears and the skin is tightened from there. These procedures are called many things, some you may have heard of are Life Style Lift, Thread Lift, Minimal Incision,Weekend Face Lift, Quick Lift, Non-Surgical Face Lift, and many more.

ONE of us, (I won't say which one!) had this procedure done. And although the results were good, the recovery process was awful. After spending about $7000.00 on the surgery, when it came time to leave the office and go home to recover, the doctor just said "put some frozen peas on your face" to help the swelling, pain, and bruising.

WHAT!? That's your bedside manner/solution? Wet, yucky, drippy, bags of peas? And just how is one supposed to get those bags of peas to stay on the face while you try to rest, or cook, or read, or surf the Internet, or a thousand other things one does?

So, Rae and I invented the Ice Caddy.We shopped for WEEKS trying to find just the right fabric. It had to be soft and luxurious, and also washable. It had to be the right color, texture, and be able to insulate the ice packs. We must have tried 100 different fabrics, each time making a prototype and seeing what worked, and what didn't.

It was a learning experience for sure!We settled on a very rich ice blue velvet for the inside that goes next to the face, and a strong padded elastic for the outside. When we saw the final prototype, we knew it was right. Next, we had to get our product in front of doctors. We figured they would be thrilled to be able to offer their patients a comfortable way to hold ice packs and recover. WRONG!

Doctor after doctor told us that once their patients left the office, they were basically on their own. The recovery part was not their concern! We were dumbfounded, to put it mildly. We had no idea that (most) doctors could not be bothered with providing sensitive aftercare.
So, Rae and I took matters into our own hands! We realized we were going to have to just by-pass the doctors and take our product right to the patient! So we built our website, made a commercial, and started marketing The Ice Caddy right to the public.

Now that's the story of the Ice Caddy....but what about the Face Caddy?

Well, a chiropractor saw our product and said he wanted to offer it to his migraine and TMJ patients. We couldn't understand why. This doctor told us that the Ice Caddy could apply heat or ice EXACTLY at the temporomandibular joint.

So we decided to design a more utilitarian version of the Ice Caddy for migraine and TMJ sufferers and call it the Face Caddy. It would cost a little less, because we felt it did not need to be quite as "luxurious" as the Ice Caddy. So, the velvet on the inside is just a grade lower on the Face Caddy, and there's no blue trim around the edge. The Face Caddy is all black, so both men and women feel comfortable wearing it. And hey, who doesn't like to save a buck or two!?
